South African legend Quinton de Kock was trapped down the leg side for a first-ball duck by Adelaide Strikers’ pacer David Payne in match number 18 of the 2023-24 BBL season. Turning up for Melbourne Renegades at the Docklands Stadium, the dashing opening batsman is yet to register a single fifty-plus score in the ongoing tournament.

Quinton de Kock fails yet again in BBL 2023-24

South African wicketkeeper-batsman Quinton de Kock registered his second duck of the BBL 2023-24 season for Melbourne Renegades, after he was dismissed by Adelaide Strikers paceman David Payne in Melbourne on December 29.

The cricketer was strangled down the leg side by Payne in his first ball of the innings, as the Renegades received an early jolt in their 178-run task.

Quinton de Kock was also dismissed for a seven-ball duck at the same venue earlier in the competition, courtesy of a back of a length delivery from Brisbane Heat fast bowler Spencer Johnson. So far, the Proteas’ opening batsman has scored just 61 runs for the Renegades from four BBL 2023-24 innings, thus maintaining a substandard average of just 15.25.

Fortunately for Quinton, the Renegades zipped past the Adelaide Strikers’ 177-run total with more than an over to spare, courtesy of a run-chase masterclass from Jake Fraser-McGurk and Australian T20 veteran Shaun Marsh.

His BBL career aside, the South African stumper was recently retained by the Lucknow Super Giants franchise for next year’s IPL 2024 season. The cricketer found himself among 17 retentions made by the management on IPL 2024 retention day, alongside the likes of fellow senior men KL Rahul, Nicholas Pooran, Krunal Pandya and Marcus Stoinis among others.
