England T20I opener Phil Salt scored a magnificent century against the West Indies in the 4th T20I of the ongoing five-match series in the Caribbeans. The 27-year-old hit successive tons to help England level the series from being 2-0 down earlier last week.

The wicketkeeper-batter, carrying all of his confidence from his maiden T20I century in Grenada, came all guns blazing and smashed 119 runs off just 57 balls to lay a perfect foundation for the reigning world champions’ convincing 75-run victory at the Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba.

The spectacular knock which included seven boundaries and ten sixes was well accompanied by two half centuries from Jos Buttler and Liam Livingstone as England amassed their highest T20I total in history. Salt also became the first men’s player from England to hit multiple T20I centuries, and what better to do it in two consecutive games, helping the team comeback from adversity.

Noticeably, despite being such a consistent performer in this format, Salt failed to attract any bid in the recently concluded IPL 2024 auction. The former Delhi Capitals’ player had a base price of Rs1.5 crore and had his maiden T20I century behind him, scored just a couple of days back, to support his case.

In addition, his abilities with the bat in conditions like we see in India is a rarity in an overseas top-order batter. However, the IPL setback proved to be a motivation for the English superstar as he responded with a record-breaking ton.

Salt will be back in action with England taking on the West Indies in the fifth and the final T20I on Thursday in the quest of a historic series victory.
