The Tom Latham led unit must be very happy with the kind of start they had to the series as they got the better of Bangladesh in almost every department in the first ODI. Will Young, who scored his third ODI ton, alongside skipper Latham himself were brilliant with the bat, doing the major damage with the bat, posting a formidable total in a rain-curtailed game.

The bowlers followed up with some fabulous bowling and never allowed Bangladesh to gain control in the chase. Overall, a well balanced kiwi side with form in their hands, will be looking to waste no time and make it two wins in a row to wrap up the series before the final clash in Napier later this week.

Bangladesh

Bangladesh, on the other hand, continued to be miserable as they failed to grab on the opportunities they created to kill the first game. The hosts were clearly the better team despite being put under pressure by the tigers. Shoriful Islam started brilliantly with the new ball but the rest of the attack could not really capitalize on that start as they conceded a way more at the end than they should have.

With the bat, there have been several batters failing to convert their starts and that has remained the primary reason behind Bangladesh lagging behind in this format away from home in the recent past. The youngsters like Towhid Hridoy, Afif Hossain have put their best foot forward but still need to convert it into something special to beat someone like New Zealand at home and level the series to take the contest till Saturday in Napier.

NZ vs BAN 2nd ODI: Saxton Oval, Nelson Pitch Report

This will be the first One day international at Saxton Oval since 2014. However, the last 50-over game was played in November last year. The pitch is generally a balanced one with a little bit of help for the seamers up front. The batters can play long once they are settled as it gets a bit tough to play shots for the new batters as the game progresses. The team winning the toss is expected to bowl first considering the unknown nature of the wicket.
