Phil Salt departs [Source: @PTVSp0rts/X.com]
England star opener Phil Salt is struggling with his form, and his rough patch continued against South Africa in the Champions Trophy 2025 at the National Cricket Stadium, Karachi, on Saturday, March 1.
Salt couldn’t make an impact as he got out cheaply, scoring just 8 runs off 6 balls in the first over of England’s innings. South African pacer Marco Jansen opened the bowling and dismissed Salt on the sixth ball of the over—right after being hit for two boundaries!
Jansen got the better of Salt with a short-pitched delivery. The extra bounce caught Salt off guard as he attempted a pull shot. The ball took a top edge and went towards mid-wicket, where Rassie van der Dussen took an easy catch. Jansen was fired up, celebrating England’s early setback.
It was a disappointing day for England star as he walks off with a visible frustration towards the pavilion.
England Bat First in a Dead Rubber Match
England captain Jos Buttler won the toss and chose to bat first in their last group-stage match. However, this match holds no significance for them as they are already eliminated from the tournament. On the other hand, South Africa still has a chance to qualify for the semi-finals.
At the time of writing, England are at 27 for 2 in 3.3 overs, with Joe Root and Ben Duckett at the crease, trying to stabilise the innings.
