England's swashbuckling keeper-batter Phil Salt had a forgettable outing against Afghanistan, as he was dismissed for a low score in the must-win clash in Lahore. Opening the batting for England, Salt managed only twelve runs before Omarzai cleaned him up with a ripper.
Omarzai Roars After Cleaning Up Phil Salt
The incident occurred during the fourth over of England's innings when Salt was trying to ensure a solid start for his team with his opening partner Ben Duckett. Afghanistan captain Hashmatullah Shahidi brought Omarzai into the attack and the move paid off instantly.
The experienced all-rounder delivered an absolute ripper to breach through Salt's defence and send him packing. From over the wicket, Omarzai bowled a good-length ball, which jagged back slightly into Salt after pitching around the off and middle stump line.
As Salt attempted a wild slog, the ball went straight through the gap between his bat and pad, uprooting the stumps. Thus, Salt, who was expected to give England a flying start, departed scoring only twelve runs. It's worth mentioning that Omarzai also contributed 41 crucial runs to Afghanistan's tally.
Jamie Smith Joins Ben Duckett After Salt's Departure
After Phil Salt's cheap dismissal, keeper-batter Jamie Smith joined the in-form Ben Duckett to steady the ship for the Englishmen. As of writing, England were 30 for one, with Smith and Duckett batting on 9* and 8*, respectively.
