After blowing hot and cold in the first two matches, Pat Cummins well and truly arrived in the 2023 World Cup, helping Australia occupy the driving seat in their ongoing fixture against Sri Lanka in Lucknow. Besides scalping two crucial wickets, the Australian captain executed a stunning direct hit, getting rid of Lankan all-rounder Dunith Wellalage.

Batting first, Sri Lanka got off to a flying start, courtesy of a flamboyant opening stand between Kusal Perera and Pathum Nissanka.

After dismissing them in quick succession, Australian skipper Pat Cummins showcased his fielding brilliance, catching Wellalage well short of his crease through a sensational throw.

It was a length ball from Mitchell Starc, as Wellalage nudged it to the mid off and instantly started running for a quick single. However, Cummins had other ideas, as he picked the ball up and hit the bull's eye in the non-striker's end to send the southpaw back to the dugout.

After Wellalage got out, seam bowling all-rounder Chamika Karunaratne joined the middle to bat alongside Charith Asalanka. Despite getting a great start, the middle-order collapse has led Sri Lanka to a precarious situation, as they are placed at 194 for six in 37.3 overs as of writing.
