Avesh Khan delivered a standout performance in the Qualifier 2 match of the IPL 2024 between Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on 24th May.
RR, aiming for a spot in the finals, capitalised on early breakthroughs and maintained pressure through brilliant fielding and strategic bowling.
After dismissing the dangerous SRH opener Abhishek Sharma early in the innings, RR's bowlers continued to dismantle the top order. Rahul Tripathi and Travis Head both fell after scoring 37 runs and 34 runs, leaving SRH struggling.
It was clear that RR needed to sustain their momentum to secure a place in the finals.

Avesh Khan's moment of brilliance came in the 14th over. With SRH already on the back foot, Avesh bowled a wide yorker at 137.7 kmph. Nitish Kumar Reddy, attempting an innovative reverse scoop, managed to get some bat on it but couldn't lift it over the in-field.
The field placement was perfect. Yuzvendra Chahal, stationed at short third man, took a sharp catch with a reverse cup, sending Nitish Reddy back to the pavilion after scoring 5 runs off 10 balls. This dismissal reduced SRH to half their side with more than six overs remaining.
At the time of writing, SRH are at 163 for 6 in 18 overs.
