Babar Azam has always been a standout performer for Pakistan, often hailed as one of the best batters in the country’s cricketing history. While his performance in Test cricket saw a dip in 2024, Babar made a strong comeback in the ongoing series against South Africa. Playing in the first Test at SuperSport Park, Centurion, he achieved a historic milestone, becoming only the third cricketer ever to score at least 4000 runs in all three formats of the game.
Before coming to the crease, Babar was just 3 runs short of reaching 4000 Test runs. He wasted no time, hitting a classic boundary to reach the milestone in style. The moment happened during the 15th over of Pakistan’s innings when South Africa’s Corbin Bosch bowled a full delivery on Babar’s pads. Babar elegantly flicked it through mid-wicket for a four, bringing up his 4000th Test run in his 101st innings, with an impressive average of over 43.
This achievement places Babar Azam in an exclusive club alongside Indian legends Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, making him only the third player in cricket history to accomplish this feat in Tests, ODIs, and T20Is.

South Africa Put Pakistan On Back Foot
South Africa won the toss and decided to bowl first, a decision that paid off early. Corbin Bosch, making his Test debut, struck with his very first delivery, dismissing Shan Masood for 17 runs. Soon after, Dane Paterson removed Saim Ayub, leaving Pakistan at 41/2 in 17 overs. At the crease, Babar Azam and Kamran Ghulam are working to stabilise the innings.
