In the intense fourth Test between India and Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Stadium, Virat Kohli pulled off a spectacular reverse-cup catch to end Marnus Labuschagne’s hopes of reaching a well-deserved century. The Australian batter looked in great touch, nearing his milestone, but India had other plans to break the crucial partnership between Labuschagne and Steve Smith.
The moment of brilliance came during the 66th over of Australia’s innings, right after the drinks break. Washington Sundar bowled a full, tossed-up delivery on the middle stump, tempting Labuschagne to go big. Stepping down the track, Labuschagne aimed to clear mid-off but mistimed his shot, sending the ball straight to Virat Kohli. Standing in position, Kohli leaped and grabbed the ball confidently with a reverse-cup style catch.
Labuschagne was dismissed for a well-fought 72 runs off 145 balls, and his 83-run partnership with Steve Smith came to an end. India badly needed this breakthrough, and Kohli’s quick reflexes provided just that, helping them slow down Australia’s momentum.
Australia's Stellar Performance On Day 1
Australia opted to bat first, and their decision seemed to pay off as they made a solid start. Konstas impressed in the morning session before falling to Ravindra Jadeja. Usman Khawaja then anchored the innings with a gritty knock, but his resistance ended when Jasprit Bumrah surprised him with a sharp short ball.
Despite these dismissals, Australia managed to lay a strong foundation and, at the time of writing, Australia are at 240/4 in 68 overs.
