Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2024-25 witnessed another disappointing outing for Najmul Hossain Shanto in the 21st match between Fortune Barishal and Dhaka Capitals at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, Chattogram, on January 16.

Shanto, the wicketkeeper-batter for Fortune Barishal, stepped in to open the chase of 139 runs alongside captain Tamim Iqbal. The duo hoped to build a strong foundation, but the innings took an early blow in the second over.

Abu Jayed, bowling for Dhaka, delivered a full delivery outside off-stump. Shanto advanced down the pitch, attempting to loft the ball over the covers. Unfortunately, he only managed an outside edge, which flew to deep backward point, where Tanzid Hasan safely completed the catch. Shanto’s brief stay at the crease ended with disappointment, leaving his team in need of a solid partnership.

Tamim and Malan Lead the Charge

Despite Shanto’s early departure, Fortune Barishal quickly found stability thanks to an impressive 117-run partnership between Tamim Iqbal and Dawid Malan. Tamim anchored the chase with a composed knock of 61 runs off 48 balls, while Malan supported him with timely boundaries and smart rotation of strike.

Although Tamim lost his wicket late in the chase, Jahandad Khan walked in and made an immediate impact. He smashed a couple of sixes to finish the game in style, securing an easy victory for Fortune Barishal. Tamim's Barishal completed the chase with ease, winning the match by eight wickets.
