Brisbane Heat’s South African import Nadine de Klerk snared a screamer of a catch against Hobart Hurricanes in match number 10 of the WBBL 2024 season. Stationed inside the ring, Nadine made a backward running dive to hand teammate Charlie Knott her first wicket of the high-scoring game at the Junction Oval in Melbourne.

Unfortunately for Heat, Hobart Hurricanes catered themselves to a seven-wicket victory in the final over of the match. The outcome marked Brisbane Heat’s first defeat of the WBBL 2024 season, as they slipped to number two on the eight-team points table.

Nadine de Klerk holds on to a stunner in WBBL 2024

Brisbane Heat all-rounder Nadine de Klerk held on to a stunner to get rid of Hobart Hurricanes well-set number three batter Nicola Carey in the 12th over of the run-chase. At a time when the Hurricanes raced to 102 runs at the loss of just one opener, Carey went inside out on to her off side in a bid to keep up with her team’s swift scoring rate.

However, an agile Nadine stationed inside the ring ran backwards and made a dive with her outstretched hands to pouch a dipping ball. Nadine’s fielding brilliance ensured Carey’s exit at 17 and it tilted the momentum slightly in favour of Brisbane Heat Women.

Apart from handing Charlie Knott the prized-scalp of Nicola Carey, Nadine de Klerk also knocked over Hobart Hurricanes opener Lizelle Lee for 38 just outside the powerplay overs.

Earlier in the match, Heat charted 173-5 from 20 overs courtesy of a belligerent 57-ball 75 from Grace Harris and backend fury from Jemimah Rodrigues (27-ball 45) and Laura Harris (11-ball 21).

Despite posing a competitive total upfront, the Hobart Hurricanes went on to win the match with seven wickets and two balls to spare, with Englishwoman Danni Wyatt-Hodge (62 off 35) playing starring role with the bat.
