In-form India Under-19 batsman Musheer Khan was knocked over by Australian fast bowler Mahli Beardman for 22 in the final of the 2024 Under-19 World Cup at Benoni.

Beardman struck in just his second ball of the match after he was welcomed with a boundary by a well-set Musheer at the crease. His timely strike further worsened India’s troubles at 40-2 as they attempt to chase down an uphill task of 254 to defend their title.

Musheer Khan fails to pounce on early reprieve

Musheer Khan, who was dropped by Australian fielder by Harry Dixon when he was yet to open his account, failed to capitalize on his early reprieve as he was knocked over by fast bowler Mahli Beardman for 22.

Notably, Beardman delivered his side their much-needed breakthrough within his opening over after he was introduced into the attack by captain Hugh Weibgen in the 13th over of the innings.

Musheer Khan’s dismissal ended his 2024 Under-19 World Cup campaign in South Africa with 360 runs to his name. The 18-year-old star all-rounder tallied his runs in just seven innings while maintaining a splendid average of 60, with two match-winning centuries to his name.

Earlier in the match, Australia amassed 253-7 off their 50 overs off the back of some handy runs in the death from Oliver Peake and some middle-overs dexterity from Hugh Weibgen and Harjas Singh.

In response, India Under-19 lost opener Arshin Kulkarni for just three before young Musheer was left stunned by Beardman in a crunch run-chase.
