Mohammad Rizwan failed to deliver on his T20I captaincy debut as the Pakistan skipper departed for a 2-ball duck against the Aussies in the first game. Chasing a tricky 94 runs in a rain-curtailed 7 over contest, Rizwan was pushed on the back-foot as he couldn't get going.
Brisbane witnessed considerable amount of rain on the day of the T20I game, and it threatened to spoil the fun. However, The Gabba has tremendous drainage system and after the wonderful work of the groundsmen, a 7-over match started.
In the need of chasing 94, Pakistan had to go for the big shots and Rizwan perished while doing so.
Xavier Bartlett bowled a length ball as Rizwan decided to target his favourite area, the leg side. However, he miscued the slog as he gets a top-edge and Jake Fraser-McGurk took a safe catch.
Once Rizwan departed, his close ally, Babar Azam also departed cheaply as the former skipper could only score 3 runs before heading back to the pavilion.
Maxwell powers Australia to 93
Put into bat, Australia were rampant in their approach and the onslaught was started by Glenn Maxwell. The star all-rounder, who had a poor ODI series against the same opposition had his redemption arc as he smashed Pakistan to all corners.
The explosive batter played some delightful strokes and also brought out his innovative best as he scored a quick-fire 43 off 19. Marcus Stoinis (21 off 7) provided the finishing touches as Australia reached a strong total.
