Glenn Maxwell's wicket against Pakistan (Source:@viratgoback/X.com)
The first T20I between Australia and Pakistan started after a long wait due to rain and the match was curtailed into a seven-over-per-side affair. Australia batted first and lost their openers early, but Glenn Maxwell came out all guns blazing at number 3 and smashed 43 off just 19 balls.
The Big Show, as Maxwell is fondly known was looking good for a lot more, but Abbas Afridi finally got the better of him in the sixth over. It was a sharp short delivery by Abbas Afridi, Glenn Maxwell went for the pull shot but he was in an awkward position while hitting it and ended up giving an easy catch to deep backward square leg. Usman Khan took the catch and Pakistan got a crucial breakthrough.
Australia Reach 93 In Seven Overs
After the wicket of Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis smashed 21 off 7 balls and Australia ended with 93 in their seven overs. Pakistan also have a strong batting line-up, but their batters need to get going from the ball one and it would be interesting to see their approach. Earlier, Pakistan won the toss and decided to bowl first and they would be looking to get off to a winning start after a historic ODI series win.
This is also the first time, Mohammad Rizwan is leading Pakistan in T20Is and after the horrendous performance in T20 World Cup 2024, they are starting afresh under the wicketkeeper batter. Australia, on the other hand, are being led by Josh Inglis in this series with key players rested for BGT, and let's see how things pan out in the second half.
