SRH likely to target Jansen [Source: @riseup_pant17/X.Com]
Ahead of the IPL mega auction, South African sensation, Marco Jansen has attracted several IPL sides with his blockbuster performance in the 3rd T20I vs India. The all-rounder almost snatched the win from jaws of defeat, but ultimately couldn't do it alone.
With the series levelled at 1:1, the third T20I swung in India's favour when Tilak Varma scored a scintillating century and remained unbeaten at 107. In the process, he became the second youngest Indian after Yashasvi Jaiswal to score a T20I ton.
In reply, South Africa lost wickets at regular intervals, and with Heinrich Klaasen's dismissal, India had the upper hand. However, Jansen had some other plans as he showed his batting class ahead of the auctions and tonked a 16-ball fifty to stretch his side closer to the winning line.
Despite the Proteas not winning the match, Jansen garnered praise and can attract buyers in the upcoming IPL auctions. Here are 3 teams which can target the Proteas all-rounder.
3) Gujarat Titans
Last season, Gujarat's biggest concern was their pace battery. Mohammad Shami was injured and didn't play a single game, and as a result, they lacked the cutting edge in their pace attack.
This season, they should look for a quality pacer and Jansen could be the right fit. Quality left-arm pacers are a rare commodity and Jansen is arguably one of the best bowlers at the moment. Plus, the surface at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad, will suit his style of bowling, as the pitch tends to assist the seamers.
GT have 69 crores to spend in the auction, and if they use it wisely, they can easily land the Proteas pacer.
2) Delhi Capitals
Remember once Delhi Capitals had a tearaway Proteas pacer in their squad? During the 2012 season, the Capitals had the current India bowling coach, Morne Morkel in the side and he ran riot with the ball. Also, they had Anrich Nortje and Kagiso Rabada in their side, and the two bowlers made quite a name for themselves.
The franchise can take inspiration from their past decisions and should once again invest in a Proteas fast bowler. DC clearly have a love for South African players, and Jansen should be on their radar.
Apart from his bowling, the left-arm seamer can also contribute with the bat, as shown in the 3rd T20I. DC generally have a fragile lower-order batting and Jansen could be their saviour.
1) Sunrisers Hyderabad
Last season, SRH had Pat Cummins as their overseas pacer and he was their captain. Hence, Jansen couldn't get much of an opportunity. However, he just played 3 matches and picked up a solitary wicket.
SRH do have an RTM left and don't be surprised that the franchise uses it on Jansen after looking at his performance Vs India. Jansen is a quality pacer, but his ability to hit the ball hard makes him an asset, and SRH can also use him at number 7 in the batting position.
