Mohammad Wasim Jr. put in a brilliant bowling performance in Pakistan's vital World Cup 2023 match against Bangladesh at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Tuesday. The right-arm quick claimed the wicket of Bangladesh’s last specialist batter, Mehidy Hasan Miraz.

Wasim Jr. outsmarted Mehidy Hasan Miraz with a magical delivery

Having spent a decent amount of time at the crease, Mehidy looked set for a big finish but Wasim had other plans. It all happened on the first ball of the 44th over when Wasim bowled an angling-in-length ball with a hint of reverse swing.

Miraz, perhaps looking to capitalise on a potential scoring opportunity, went for an aggressive slog. Unfortunately for him, the ball skirted past the inside edge of the bat and ruthlessly targeted and toppled the off-stump, sending Miraz back to the pavilion.

Mehidy’s departure left Bangladesh vulnerable, as he was the last of the recognised batters. Without his presence, the team struggled to add those crucial finishing runs to their total.

Following Miraz's dismissal, Bangladesh's tail quickly unravelled. Wasim, capitalizing on the momentum, dismantled the defenses of Taskin Ahmed and Mustafizur Rahman in short order, curtailing Bangladesh’s innings at 204 in 45.1 overs.

Now, with a target of just 205 runs, Pakistan stands on the brink of a resurgence. After a series of disappointing performances, a win here is crucial to keep their semifinal dreams alive.

A loss, on the other hand, will dash their hopes and see them exit the World Cup 2023 prematurely. It will be interesting to see how the Men in Green go about their chase.
