India have taken an upper hand in the first Test against Australia in Perth by first delivering a strong bowling performance, and then following it up with a powerful opening stand in the second outing. The opening duo notched up an unbeaten stand of 172 runs and Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 90 while KL Rahul stayed not out on 62. The duo has put India well forward with a lead now 218 runs for the visitors and Australian pacers clearly looked short of ideas.

There were some close calls in between, and one of them was on the final delivery of the 41st over when Mitchell Starc found an edge off the bat of Yashasvi Jaiswal. It was a bowled just short of full-length, around off and it induced southpaw in a drive.

The ball though caught the outside edge of his blade and went towards first slip. Usman Khawaja stationed there did not get into great position as the ball bounced just ahead of his finger which frustrated Starc. The Aussie pacer looked completely annoyed as the home team needed a breakthrough at that moment and it is important to convert half-chances in such situations.

Yashasvi Jaiswal was batting on 51 at that time,  and till the end of the day, he added 39 more runs to put visitors in full control. The ball is in India's court now, and if they can manage to take the lead over 300 which looks quite likely now, Australia would find it very difficult to win this opening Test.
