Day 3 of the ongoing second Test against Pakistan at Melbourne Cricket Ground has not gone according to hosts Australia. In the first session, the visitors showcased defiance, brought down the lead to 54, and knocked Australia's top order apart.
Firstly, Shaheen Afridi claimed Marnus Labuschagne and Usman Khawaja's wickets, then Mir Hamza dented Australia's batting further apart, cleaning up David Warner and Travis Head on consecutive balls.
Hamza's wicket of Head was a dream delivery of any left-armer, where the ball nipped back just enough and went on between bat and pad to rattle the stumps. Head has been Australia's Mr Crisis across formats this year, having played winning knocks in the World Test Championship 2023 Final and ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 Final.

On the earlier delivery, Hamza had Warner miscue the pull shot, as the ball managed to find the top of the middle stump. In the first innings, too, Hamza, playing his fourth Test, impressed with the ball, picking up wickets of Mitchell Marsh and Mitchell Starc.
As of writing, Australia have extended their lead to 116 runs, with Steve Smith (12*) and Marsh (28*) consolidating the second innings with an unbeaten 46-run stand for the fifth wicket.
