Sri Lankan pacer Nuwan Thushara announced his arrival in SA20 in style as he sent Paarl Royals' top order anchors Jos Buttler and Fabian Allen packing with two absolute rippers.

Paarl Royals hosted MI Cape Town in Boland Park for the 14th matchup of the ongoing SA20 season. The hosts were in search of redemption as they suffered a defeat against Cape Town last week.

While MI Cape Town opted to bowl first, the Royals' explosive openers Jason Roy and Jos Buttler put up an excellent partnership of mammoth 116 runs for the opening wicket. The English duo looked invincible until Thomas Kabers produced a much-needed breakthrough.

Meanwhile, MI skipper KieronPollard sensed an opening and immediately recalled Sri Lankan fast bowler Nuwan Thushara back into the attack. On the very delivery of his second spell, Nuwan bowled a full-length delivery to Butler, who was utterly deceived by pace.

He tried to make room for a drive, but the pace was simply too much as Butler's off-stump went flying in the back, thus ending his sturdy knock of 54 runs off 42 deliveries.

Notably, Nuwan Thushara opened up his wicket tally for the 2024 SA20 season with Jos Butler's wicket. However, the bowler's night was just getting started.

For the second delivery of the over, Thushara picked a leaf of Malinga's book and bowled a dipping yorker to trap new batter Fabian Allen on the pads. While the umpire deemed it leg before wicket, Allen decided to challenge the call. The replays showed the ball had just clipped the leg stump, meaning the umpire's decision was upheld, and Nuwan Thushara was on a hattrick in a dramatic turnaround.

While the Sri Lankan bowlers couldn't achieve the milestone, his two back-to-back wickets restricted the Royals to 162 runs at the end of the first innings.

That being said, Nuwan Thushara's turnaround has been a positive sign for MI Cape Town as they navigate their way into the SA20 2024 season.
