Mehidy Hasan Miraz bowled as many as three maiden overs on Saturday (October 7) during Bangladesh’s World Cup 2023 opener against Afghanistan at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, Dharamsala. The Bangladeshi all-rounder returned excellent figures of 9-3-25-3 to play pivotal roles in knocking over the opposition for a paltry 156 in 37.2 overs.

Among Miraz’s three dismissals, the one he got during the 37th over of Afghanistan’s innings, of Mujeeb Ur Rahman, drew a lot of attention. Mujeeb has a knack for scoring runs quickly at the late end of the innings, but Mehidy did not allow him to get going.

It was a normal-length delivery by Mehidy, which Mujeeb went to send downtown. However, Afghanistan International failed to get in the line of the delivery, and thus, failed to connect it all together. The ball went straight to the off-stump and uprooted it in the process.

Hashmatullah Shahidi and Rashid Khan were Miraz's other two victims, as he, alongside Shakib Al Hasan (3/30), wreaked havoc to fold Afghanistan to a lowly total.

It is important to note that both Mehidy and Mujeeb are known for being sharp wizards for their respective sides. Thus, it is safe to say that the Bangladeshi all-rounder has won the Round 1 battle.
