Haris Rauf breathed fire for Pakistan in their World Cup 2023 opener against the Netherlands on Friday (October 6) in Hyderabad. The 29-year-old, coming to bowl the 27th over of the Dutch innings, struck twice in the space of three balls to help the Men in Green regain control of the contest.

However, Rauf would have picked up three wickets in that over had Iftikhar Ahmed not dropped a simple chance at slip, of Saqib Zulfiqar.

Prior to that, Rauf dismissed Teja Nidamanuru and skipper Scott Edwards to reduce the Netherlands from 133/2 to 133/4 in no time. Then, he had the opportunity to remove Saqib Zulfiqar for a golden duck, as his full delivery outside the off stump outfoxed the Dutch batter.

The ball went straight to Iftikhar after a thick outside edge, but the Pakistani all-rounder panicked while grabbing that, and dropped a straightforward opportunity in the process.

After the drop chance, Haris Rauf was down on his knees, wondering how he missed it. Even Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan, as well as the other Pakistani players, were in complete shell-shock after the incident.
