The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has summoned applications for the role of bowling and fielding coaches for the Indian Women’s cricket team. Interestingly, the board is yet to finalise the head coach of the side, despite zeroing in on a couple of candidates back in June itself.

BCCI aiming to appoint Women team’s coaching staff

As per reports, the BCCI has invited applications for the roles of bowling and fielding coaches of the Indian women’s team, even though the head coach of the side is yet to be finalised. The report also stated that the new bowling and fielding coaches will be signing a two-year term with the board, and one of their earliest assignments will be to helm the Indian women’s team in the upcoming Asian Games in China.

Back in June, the BCCI tasked its Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) to hunt for the next head coach of the team. The committee, comprised of former cricketers Ashok Malhotra, Jatin Paranjpe and Sulakshana Naik; zeroed in on Amol Muzumdar and Tushar Arothe as likely candidates after conducting a series of interviews.

The Indian women’s team was previously coached by former men’s spinner Ramesh Powar. After he was axed by the BCCI in December 2022, Harmanpreet Kaur and co. were guided by team’s batting coach Hrishikesh Kanitkar on an interim basis. Meanwhile, Nooshin Al Khadeer stepped in for the duty during team’s recent tour of Bangladesh.

In the meantime, the ‘Women in Blue’ are gearing up for the 2023 Asian Games, set to be played in Hangzhou, China between September and October this year.
