Lahiru Kumara, one of Sri Lanka's most destructive fast bowlers, made headlines on Wednesday (November 27) in the first Test of the two-match series between Sri Lanka and South Africa, taking place at Kingsmead, Durban. The 27-year-old took two wickets in the first session of the play on Day 1, and the way he stunned David Bedingham left everyone in absolute awe.

It was the first ball of the 18th over of South Africa’s innings which got Bedingham’s wicket. It was a nip backer, clocked at 142 kph, and pitched outside the off stump. The ball from Kumara came in sharply, and the off-stump went for a ride after the ball went between bat and pad. There was nothing better sight for a fast bowler than that, and no wonder Kumara was elated after sending Bedingham packing with an absolute beauty.

At the time of writing this, South Africa and Sri Lanka, as well as the umpires and the other officials, are taking a lunch break. The hosts have reached 80/4, with skipper Temba Bavuma and Kyle Verreynne remaining not out, batting on 28* and 9* respectively.

It is important to note that the series between South Africa and Sri Lanka is very much crucial for their chances to qualify for the World Test Championship (WTC) final. Even though India and Australia are placed first and second places respectively in the WTC points table, South Africa and Sri Lanka are not too far behind.
