New Zealand and England are all set to start off a three-match Test series at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch. The Kiwis are coming into this series on the back of a stunning whitewash of Indians and would be high on confidence. England, on the other hand, lost the series to Pakistan by a 1-2 margin, but conditions would be completely different in New Zealand. So, expect them to come hard in the series opener.
For New Zealand, it is a great opportunity to strengthen their chances of making it to the WTC final, and let's see what would be their combination for the opening Test. For starters, Kane Williamson is set to make comeback and the skipper Tom Latham has confirmed in the press conference that he will replace the star of India series, Will Young.
The outgoing batter was the player of the series against India and scored runs in tough conditions, but the Kiwis have decided to drop him as the likes of Conway, Rachin Ravindra and Daryl Mitchell are all proven performers.
Nathan Smith To Make His Test Debut
Kane Williamson will bat at 3 while Glenn Phillips will take the number six position. Also, the likes of Ajaz Patel and Mitchell Santner are not in the squad and Nathan Smith, the seam-bowling all-rounder is all set to make his Test debut. The other three pacers will be Tim Southee, Matt Henry and Will O'Rourke while Jacob Duffy will miss out.
So, New Zealand will not be going with a single frontline spinner in the squad and the onus will be on Glenn Phillips, Rachin Ravindra to contribute with their tweakers. Overall, Kiwis have a quality side with proven match-winners and players who know how to deliver in their home conditions.
