IPL 2025: 3 Batters Whom Kolkata Knight Riders Will Target During The Mega Auction
Phil Salt wreaked havoc for KKR in IPL 2024 (Source: @KkrKaravan/X)
Having retained six players for INR 69 crore, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) will head to the IPL 2025 mega auction with INR 41 crore in their kitty. They have quite a few departments sorted, but must work on their batting unit heavily if they want to build a solid squad.
In particular, KKR would look to work on their top-order batting unit, as they already have their lower middle-order sorted, coyetsy of having Rinku Singh, Ramandeep Singh, and Andre Russell among six retainers. Then whom should they ideally target? Let's analyse this here.
3. Phil Salt
KKR has a habit of bringing back players from the auction. They did something similar in the past for Nitish Rana and invested heavily to get that done. Don't be surprised if they do this again for Phil Salt, considering the swashbuckling English opener had an outragious IPL campaign last year at the top.
Hence, given the fact that Salt was so comfortable while opening with Sunil Narine in IPL 2024, expect KKR to go big for him to keep their opening pair in the following season.
2. Devon Conway
Another alternative interesting acquisition KKR at the top of the order could be Devon Conway, considering they don't have much purse in their bag and there will be others who can go beyond their budget during the bidding wars. Conway has been supremely consistent for CSK, and if the Yellow Brigade don't bring him back via RTM, he could be a brilliant budget pick.
Conway can give stability at the top of the order—something KKR would love to have. Dwayne Bravo, who joined KKR from CSK ahead of this season as a mentor, could be a factor in signing him.
1. KL Rahul
With Shreyas Iyer no longer around, KKR would love to have a similar profile to take up the baton of captaincy. KL Rahul just fits the bill at this point, and having him also would help them have a reliable Indian opener at the top.
We all know what KL Rahul brings to the table, and that would give them the luxury of going for an extra overseas option among regulars. KKR saw resounding success in the past by investing heavily in captains (Shreyas Iyer and Gautam Gambhir). Therefore, expect them to go aggressively for KL Rahul as well.
