Fortune Barishal's Kyle Mayers made a valuable contribution in Qualifier 2 of the 2024 Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) to guide his side over the line. The middle-order batter played a quick-fire cameo of 28 runs off 15 deliveries, laced with one boundary and three hits over the fence. 

His special innings was crafted with the three sixes and an incredible strike rate of 186.66. But his six against Afghanistan seamer Fazalhaq Farooqi in the 15th over stood out as it was one of the most elegant shots to clear the fence in recent times. 

Farooqi bowled a short of a length delivery, which was well read by Mayers, who went on his backfoot and swatted it over the extra cover for a maximum. 

The shot left commentators stunned as one of them said, 

“Incredible! Hardly seen this kind-of-a-six on the backfoot against a pacer”.

Interestingly, his team also cheered and stood up to applaud his fine hit from the dugout. However, Farooqi had the last laugh, avenging the six with a short ball in the next delivery. 

Mayers tried to go over the mid-wicket region but mistimed it to find Hasan Mahmud, who did well to keep the ball in play and pass it swiftly to Rony without stepping out of the boundary ropes. 

Meanwhile, his incredible knock, along with a 38-ball 47 from Mushfiqur Rahim, helped Fortune Barishal chase down the target with nine balls to spare and book a final date with Comilla Victorians on Friday.
