Twitter reacts after BCCI announces central contract list (X.com)
BCCI released its annual central contract retention list for the 2023-24 calendar year yesterday, and the omissions of Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan have the netizens on the internet divided.
The Apex body announced central contracts for as many as 30 Indian players and divided them into four categories. Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Ravindra Jadeja, and Jasprit Bumrah were awarded the highest contract in A+ group owing to their excellence in all formats of the game.
Additionally, the A category included players who have excelled in a particular format, whereas players who have just ventured into international cricket have been placed in the B and C category.
Notably, a special contract is announced for emerging fast bowlers who made waves with their elite skills in the past year and possess the potential to serve the nation someday in the future.
Having said that, fans on the internet were largely focused on the exclusion of Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan.
Iyer and Kishan have been denied a central contract from the BCCI due to their failure to adhere to domestic cricket commitments.
While Kishan defied Rahul Dravid’s direct orders to appear in the Ranji Trophy, Iyer failed to show evidence of his alleged injury, which forced him to skip the Ranji Trophy quarter-final game against Baroda.
Meanwhile, fans on Twitter are divided. While some hail BCCI’s tough decision as it serves as an example for young talent not to let fame get to their heads. On the other hand, many believe the decision was harsh, and both Iyer and Kishan should have bagged a contract owing to their recent performances in national colors.
