Belligerent Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) batsman Venkatesh Iyer has unleashed his frugal skills with the ball just ahead of the forthcoming IPL 2024 season. Turning up for Madhya Pradesh in their 2024 Ranji Trophy semifinal clash at Nagpur, the 29-year-old cricketer accounted for the key Vidarbha wickets of well-set opening batsman Atharva Taide and middle-order star Yash Rathod.

Venkatesh Iyer sent down a peach of a delivery to castle Vidarbha’s number five batsman Yash Rathod on the opening day of their Ranji Trophy 2024 semifinal clash at Nagpur’s Vidarbha Cricket Association Ground.

After accounting for the wicket of Atharva Taide, Iyer capsized Rathod’s threatening stay at the crease in one of his return spells before eventually finishing with figures of 2-28 from 11 overs.

Known for his attacking batting across all formats, Venkatesh Iyer blasted 404 runs for the KKR franchise back in IPL 2023, with a ton and two half-centuries to his credit.

While his bowling skills have been hardly utilized in the past two editions of the tournament, Iyer’s latest spell in Ranji Trophy 2024 might well prompt his KKR skipper, Shreyas Iyer, to use him as a handy option with the ball.

Back in November 2023, the Madhya Pradesh-based all-rounder was retained by the KKR management for the IPL 2024 season. The franchise made further additions to their composition at the auction by acquiring the likes of Mitchell Starc, Manish Pandey, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, and KS Bharat, among others.

The IPL 2024 season, set to commence from March 22 onwards, will mark Venkatesh Iyer’s fourth successive seasonal outing for the KKR franchise.
