Major League Cricket (MLC) 2023 witnessed a thrilling moment as MI New York skipper, Kieron Pollard, astounded audiences by hitting the longest six of the tournament during the adrenaline-fueled clash against Seattle Orcas.

Pollard's moment of brilliance came in the face of a short delivery by right-arm pacer Cameron Gannon. Bowling the second ball of the 12th over, Gannon tossed a slower one outside the off-stump. Pollard, displaying immense power and precision, pulled the ball and cleared the mid-wicket boundary, sending the ball on an astonishing 110-metre flight.

The colossal maximum broke the record for the longest six in MLC 2023 so far as it surpassed previous record-holders Andre Russell and Devon Conway, whose sixes measured 108 and 106 metres respectively.

The explosive all-rounder's impressive feat was part of an 18-ball 34, peppered with three sixes and a boundary, that pushed MI's score to a respectable 194/8 which was eventually chased by the Orcas with four balls to spare courtesy of a 44-ball 110 from Heinrich Klaasen.

However, the thrilling day of cricketing action was marred by Pollard's injury in the second innings. Attempting to prevent a straight shot from Klaasen, the lanky fielder fell awkwardly on his shoulder. He walked off the pitch in visible pain, creating a concern for MI ahead of their key clash against Washington Freedom.

MI skipper's absence in the upcoming games would be a significant blow to the team. With a strike rate of 166.15, the fourth-best in the tournament, Pollard's absence leaves a big void for MI, potentially pushing Dewald Brevis, Nicholas Pooran, and Tim David to step up their game and steady the ship for MI New York.
