Pakistan found themselves in deep trouble against New Zealand in the final of the ongoing Tri-nation series after a top-order collapse left them reeling early in their innings. Winning the toss and opting to bat first, Pakistan lost wickets at regular intervals and struggled to build momentum against a disciplined Kiwi bowling attack.

The problems began when Fakhar Zaman and Saud Shakeel departed cheaply, putting Pakistan on the back foot. Babar Azam tried to anchor the innings but could only manage 29 runs off 34 balls before falling, further increasing the pressure on the middle order.

Mohammad Rizwan and Agha Salman then stitched together a crucial 88-run partnership off 120 balls, offering Pakistan some much-needed stability. Just as the momentum seemed to be shifting, Pakistan suffered another setback with the dismissal of Khushdil Shah in the 44th over.

Mitchell Santner bowled over the wicket and delivered a well-flighted ball around off-stump. Khushdil, looking to accelerate the innings, attempted a slog sweep, getting down on one knee. However, he failed to get the required distance, mistiming his shot.

The ball soared high but lacked the power to clear the boundary. Glenn Phillips, stationed at deep midwicket, judged the catch perfectly and held on comfortably.

Santner’s timely strike halted Pakistan’s momentum, leaving Khushdil visibly dejected with his right hand on his head. The dismissal sent a wave of frustration through the crowd, as fans reacted with disbelief at yet another setback for Pakistan in the final. At the time of writing this article Pakistan are have managed to make 242 runs at the loss of 10 wickets.
