Josh Hazlewood is Australia's premier pacer and is known for his immaculate accuracy with the ball. He has been a match-winner for Australia across formats over the years and his skills both with the red ball and white-ball are unquestionable. However, in a crucial World Cup 2023 game against Afghanistan at Wankhede, he displayed some quality football skills as well, almost running out Afghanistan opener, Ibrahim Zadran.
It was the 6th over of the game and Afghanistan were going nicely at 27-0. Hazlewood bowled a good-length delivery on off and Gurbaz fended off the front foot as the ball rolled on the turf. Ibrahim Zadran at the non-striker's end called for a quick single and Hazlewood aware and quick ran towards the ball, eventually kicking it towards the direction of batter's end. The kick was so quick that Ibrahim Zadran had to put in a desperate dive and it would have been still out had the ball hit the stump.
Hazlewood eventually got the wicket of Rahmanullah Gurbaz in the last ball of the 8th over but Afghanistan have started their innings cautiously and are looking assured of their plans and skills.
