Joe Root took an excellent catch off Towhid Hridoy on Monday (X.com)
Joe Root demonstrated his fielding prowess on Monday (October 2) in England's World Cup warm-up match against Bangladesh at Barsapara Cricket Stadium, Guwahati. The former England skipper dived to his left and took a ripper of a catch to dismiss Towhid Hridoy, who was batting on five off 13 balls.
It was a slower delivery by Sam Curran, pitched at length region on middle and leg stumps. Hridoy wanted to place it towards the leg side but closed his bat face too early while playing. As a result, he ended up getting a leading edge, and Root charged in to complete a sharp catch.
Unsurprisingly, Root was delighted to take the catch, and was all smiles. His teammates, including skipper Jos Buttler, came quickly to him to congratulate, while Hridoy started to walk back to the pavilion after staying a little in the middle.
Meanwhile, the game between England and Bangladesh have been reduced to a 37-over-a-side due to persistent rain. Bangladesh, at the time of writing, are on 181/9 after 35 overs, with Taskin Ahmed and Shoriful Islam in the middle, on 7* and 1* respectively.
