In the ongoing match between National Bank Cricket Arena in Karachi, England’s Joe Root was dismissed for 37 runs in their ongoing Champions Trophy match against South Africa.

Root's Timely Wicket Puts South Africa In Control

The  wicket came in the 18th over when Wiaan Mulder delivered a searing good-length ball that jagged back sharply. Root, attempting to flick it on the onside, was beaten on the inside edge. The ball brushed his front pad before shattering the stumps, sending Root back to the pavilion. After the dismissal, Joe Root was seen upset and looked really hopeless as he walked back to the pavilion.

This crucial breakthrough for South Africa came at a time when England were already in a precarious position, with half their side back in the dressing room for just 103 runs.

Root’s dismissal is a significant moment, as it’s highly unusual for him to fall to a straight delivery while playing across the line. After the wicket,  Mulder was seen all pumped and gave an aggressive send-off to Joe Root.

England In Precarious Situation

With England in deep trouble at 109 for 5 in 19.4 overs, captain Jos Buttler and Liam Livingstone now face the task of stabilising the innings and trying to recover from a horrendous start.

While England’s hopes are dashed in this tournament, South Africa remains in the hunt for a semi-final spot and will be looking to capitalise on this breakthrough.
