Jitesh Sharma, having silently made his international debut during the Asian Games in Hangzhou back in October, announced his arrival on the big stage with a batting masterclass against Australia.

Finding his name among the playing XI for the first time in the series, the wicketkeeper-batter bludgeoned three sixes, including two in a space of three deliveries to lead India’s recovery in their must-win game in Raipur.

Jitesh Sharma, in only his second international innings and his first against a major Test-playing nation, clubbed 35 scintillating runs against the visiting Australian attack in their fourth match of the ongoing five-game T20I series.

Arriving to the crease in the backend of the Indian innings following Ruturaj Gaikwad’s dismissal, Sharma blasted three sixes and a boundary and took a special liking to Australian debutant Chris Green to signal his intentions in just the fourth ball of his death-overs fury.

Jitesh Sharma’s threatening stay at the crease was eventually halted by Australian pacer Ben Dwarshuis in the penultimate over of the innings.

Nonetheless, his 19-ball 35, coupled with Rinku Singh’s 29-ball 46 turbo-charged the Indian total towards a commendable 174-9 by the end of their 20 overs.

The Indian team entered the contest off the back of a 2-1 lead under Suryakumar Yadav’s leadership. After pipping out their guests in the first two games, Australia bounced back with a sensational run-chase heist to reduce their series deficit in Guwahati.
