Jasprit Bumrah celebrates Mendis' dismissal [X.com]
After an underwhelming batting performance, India got a fabulous start with the ball in their ongoing Asia Cup game against Sri Lanka, as ace speedster Jasprit Bumrah rattled the Lankan top-order with pace and variation. The experienced pacer dismissed Pathum Nissanka with a beauty before getting rid of Kusal Mendis, who was looking set for a big knock.
Chasing a modest total of 214, Sri Lankan openers started their innings on a poor note, with Bumrah dismissing Nissanka in the third over. However, Kusal Mendis came out with all guns blazing, frustrating the Indians with a few delightful boundaries.
But his brief stay was put to an end by Bumrah, who deceived him with an incredible slow ball, dismissing him for 15.
After conceding a boundary, Bumrah kept Mendis quiet in the next two deliveries before removing him for a 16-ball 15 in the fourth ball.
Veteran opener Dimuth Karunaratne followed Mendis soon, as Mohammed Siraj sent him back to the dugout for a sloth-paced 18-ball 2. Sadeera Samarawickrama, who showcased prolific form against Bangladesh, has joined the middle with Charith Asalanka, with Sri Lanka tottering at 35 for three in 9.4 overs.
