In the latest development, India's star all-rounder Hardik Pandya has reignited speculation about a potential return to Test cricket after posting a video of himself bowling with a red ball during a training session. The 30-year-old cricketer shared the clip on Instagram, which quickly caught the attention of fans and cricket lovers.

In the video, Pandya is seen bowling with the traditional red ball, sparking discussions about whether the all-rounder is preparing for a comeback to the longest format of the game after a six-year hiatus.

Hardik Pandya's Performance In Test Cricket

Hardik last played a Test for India in September 2018, before undergoing lower back surgery in 2019 that sidelined him from red-ball cricket. Despite having only 11 Tests under his belt, Pandya’s performances in the format have shown flashes of brilliance, which include 523 runs and 17 wickets.

Known for his explosive contributions in limited-overs cricket, his potential return as a pace-bowling all-rounder could provide much-needed balance to India’s Test side.

Can Hardik Pandya Make A Test Return?

It is important to mention that there will be concerns regarding Pandya's readiness for Test cricket, particularly since he has not participated in any domestic red-ball matches since his surgery.

Without domestic red-ball experience, his selection for the Test squad may prove difficult. However, his decision to sit out the Duleep Trophy 2024 ahead of India’s Test series against Bangladesh has also raised eyebrows.

A player with Hardik's skill set could be an ideal addition to India's lineup for the Border-Gavaskar Test series in Australia. However, according to the current regulations established by the BCCI, he will need to demonstrate his capabilities as an all-rounder in domestic cricket to be considered for selection.

Hardik Pandya's recent form has been impressive, but whether he is ready for the demands of Test cricket remains to be seen.
