Several rumours have suggested that Babar Azam and Imad Wasim don’t share a good bond off the field. And it seemed real after what the latter did on Thursday (March 7) when fans at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium teased him with ‘Babar! Babar!’ chants.

In November 2023, Imad retired from international cricket to focus on domestic cricket. There had been a rumour that Imad, 35, took retirement early only because he knew he would not get selected when Babar was at the helm.

And what Imad did to respond to them was nothing but savage. He held up his shirt in front of them as Leonel Messi did in front of the crowd of Barcelona’s arch-rival Real Madrid’s venue, Santiago Bernabéu in 2017.

Imad had an excellent day with the ball, having returned 1/18 off his four overs in Islamabad’s five-wicket win over Karachi. They are now second on the points table, with nine points from eight matches. Multan Sultans, meanwhile, are the only side who have already qualified for the playoffs.

Imad will next be in action against Multan only, on March 10 in front of the same Rawalpindi crowd.
