In a surprising turn of events, Quetta Gladiators mystery spinner Usman Tariq was reported for suspected bowling action during a recent Pakistan Super League (PSL) game between Quetta and Karachi Kings. 

He has been barred from future participation in the league until his action is deemed legal by ICC authorities.

A Pakistan cricketing product, Usman Tariq, who has been touted as a quality mystery spinner, made his debut in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2024 season for Quetta Gladiators last month. 

His unusual action and precision left the opposition guessing. In four games played so far, Tariq clipped two wickets with a clinical economy. His enigmatic action has been likened to that of a baseball pitcher.

However, Usman Tariq's bowling action came under scrutiny during a recent match in the PSL between Quetta Gladiators and Karachi Kings, where match officials Richard Illingworth and Asif Yaqoob flagged concerns about the legality of his delivery stride and arm movement. 

Following the match, the on-field umpires decided to report Tariq's action to the cricketing authorities for further assessment and scrutiny.

He will be disallowed from participating in the league until the issue is resolved. Moreover, in an official statement, PCB revealed that Quetta Gladiators authorities had submitted a request to the board to allow the spinner to undergo a bowling action test supervised by ICC authorities. 

PCB confirmed that a bowling test will be conducted at the board-approved facility in due course.

That being said, the report of Usman Tariq's illegal bowling action comes as a setback for both the young spinner and Quetta Gladiators. Tariq had been making significant strides in his cricketing career and had emerged as a potential match-winner for his team with his skilful spin bowling. 

However, the recent events have raised questions about his ability to continue playing in the league and the impact it could have on his future prospects in cricket.
