Multan Sultans' swashbuckling batter, Iftikhar Ahmed, was at his brutal best in the 30th match of PSL 2024 against Quetta Gladiators. He was particularly severe against Mohammad Amir, collecting 13 runs off the four balls of the penultimate over of the first innings.

It was the final few overs of the innings, and fortunately for Multan, Iftikhar had arrived in the 17th over. The penultimate over is considered the toughest over of the innings in T20 cricket. Being the senior member of the team, Amir took the responsibility of bowling that over, little knowing that he would be on the receiving end of a heavy beating by Iftikhar.

Iftikhar smashed the first ball for a four over the mid-off fielder. In the next ball, Iftikhar shuffled across and smashed a length delivery over the running long-off fielder for a six. With two boundaries off the first two balls, Amir's over spiraled out of control, conceding a whopping 17 runs.

Earlier, after winning the toss, Quetta Gladiators opted to bowl first. Mohammad Amir and Akeal Hosein applied early pressure, claiming Yasir Khan's wicket in the 3rd over. However, Multan's skipper, Mohammad Rizwan, and Usman Khan steadied the ship with a 52-run partnership.

The arrival of Johnson Charles injected momentum into Multan's innings, as he bludgeoned a rapid 53 off 29 balls. Later, Iftikhar joined him, contributing a crucial cameo of 20 runs from just 8 deliveries.

The duo's aggressive strokeplay propelled Multan to a competitive total. Despite Charles's dismissal in the final over, having surpassed his fifty, Multan concluded their innings at 185/4, with Iftikhar unbeaten on 20.

Meanwhile, Quetta were bundled out for 106, losing by 79 runs to finish at the top of the points table.
