A bizarre scene took place on Thursday (November 16) during South Africa’s World Cup 2023 semi-final against Australia, taking place at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. It happened during the 29th over of South Africa’s innings when Heinrich Klaasen and Adam Zampa had an unwanted collision in the middle of the stadium.

Zampa bowled a tossed-up delivery to Klaasen, who went for a drive through the off side to take a quick single. While doing that, he went straight to the leg-spinner, who was coming back to his bowling run-up and was not aware of the situation.

As a result, Zampa’s shoulder hit Klaasen’s helmet, and the South African was hurt immediately after the collision happened.

South Africa's physio came quick to check Klaasen, who was in agonising pain, but soon came back to face the deliveries again.

After opting to bat, South Africa slipped to 24/4 in Kolkata. Klaasen and and David Miller then steadied the ship before the former fell to Travis Head after a fighting 48-ball 47.

At the time of writing, South Africa are batting on 154/6 in 39.1 overs, with David Miller holding the key, on 66* off 86 deliveries.
