The tides have turned for Bangladesh, as Hasan Mahmud has turned their fates from worse to better. He bagged two back-to-back wickets in the ongoing first Test between Bangladesh and South Africa at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka.

He narrowly missed out on a well-deserved hat trick, but he provided his team with two crucial breakthroughs, first getting rid of Wiaan Mulder and then, on the very next delivery, removing Keshav Maharaj for a golden duck. With this scalp, he picked up his third wicket of innings as he had previously also removed Aiden Markram.

The magic happened in the 65th when Mahmud first bowled a good length delivery at the outside off the line at 127.3 kmph. Mulder tried his best to punch it off his back foot through covers; however, he got an outside edge to the first slip. Shadman Islam did not let the ball pass by him as he grabbed the catch safely. Hasan Mahmud broke the brewing partnership between Mulder and Kyle Verreynne as the former departed for a well-made 54 runs.

However, Mahmud had more magic left to showcase as Keshav Maharaj walked back quicker than he came in to replace his teammate at the crease. On the very next ball, Mahmud bowled a full length delivery angling at the fourth stump. It had a hint of reverse swing as the ball came in. Clueless Maharaj tried his best to defend it however the ball crashed on to his off-stump and he had to sadly depart for a golden duck.

South Africa Give A Hard Time To Bangladesh Bowlers

Meanwhile, opting to bat first, Bangladesh failed to put up a strong total on the board as key batters like Najmul Hossain Shanto, Litton Das, Mushfiqur Rahim all departed for low-scores. Eventually, the Bangla Tigers were all out for just 146 runs on Day 1. Starting their innings, South Africa, too faltered, however somehow managed to get a hold of themselves as they proceeded further.

At the time of writing, South Africa are at 243/8 after 71 overs.
