On Thursday, London Spirit held their nerves to secure a thrilling three-wicket win over Welsh Fire in the tenth group-stage match of The Hundred 2024. Although London were 89 for seven at one stage, West Indies' white-ball specialist Shimron Hetmyer ensured their victory with a scintillating knock.

Chasing a modest 95-run target, the Spirit were down and out at one stage, having lost the key wickets of Michael-Kyle Pepper, Ollie Pope, Adam Rossington and Ravi Bopara.

However, a fantastic stand between Hetmyer and skipper Dan Lawrence helped them steady the ship, as the duo added 46 runs for the fifth wicket.

Although Lawrence was dismissed for 29 runs, Hetmyer kept fighting, eventually scoring the winning runs for London Spirit.

He targeted Welsh Fire's most successful bowler, Haris Rauf, hammering him for a massive six to take his side past the finish line.

Coming from around the wicket, Rauf bowled at Hetmyer's body, cramping him for room. However, the moved backfired on the Pakistani pacer, with the Windies batter sending the ball to the mid-wicket stand with a powerful hit.

With this thrilling victory, London Spirit opened their account in the points table, occupying the fifth position in the eight-team standings.
