Pakistan star Abrar Ahmed pulled off a sensational grab for Stallions against Saud Shakeel’s Dolphins in match number seven of the Champions One-Day Cup 2024 season. Stationed at deep third man near the boundary, the 26-year-old sprinted towards his left and snared a one-handed blinder to account for the early exit of Qasim Akram.

Ahmed’s fielding brilliance handed Haris Rauf his second wicket of the evening as the speedster claimed match-winning figures of 2-28 from four overs.

Defending 272 runs for a win, Stallions fast bowlers Jahandad Khan and Haris Rauf dismantled the Dolphins top-order at 56-4 in 12.3 overs. Just a couple of deliveries after Rauf knocked over senior man Sarfaraz Ahmed with a corker, Dolphins number six Qasim Akram slashed the speedster towards third man in pursuit for a boundary.

However, an agile Abrar Ahmed stationed at deep third man sprinted towards his left and grabbed the dipping ball with his outstretched left hand to account for Qasim Akram’s dismissal.

Haris Rauf, who secured his second wicket in the space of three balls, fell on his knees to express his profound admiration for Ahmed’s sensational fielding effort near the boundary rope.

Earlier in the match, Stallions batted first and mounted 271-7 from 50 overs. Senior top-order batter Babar Azam roared back into form by belting an unbeaten 104* from 100 balls with seven alluring boundaries and three scorching maximums.

Opening batters Shan Masood (34 off 36) and Yasir Khan (46 off 58) also shaped valuable contributions at the top before Babaz anchored the rest of the innings with Tayyab Tahir (33) and Hussain Talat (23).

Chasing 272 for a win, the Saud Shakeel-led Dolphins had their response faded away for just 97 in 25 overs to fall 174 runs short of their target. Stallions’ fast bowlers Jahandad Khan (3-18) and Haris Rauf (2-28) delivered the early breakthroughs as the two collectively accounted for the entire Dolphins top-order.

Abrar Ahmed himself chipped in with two wickets to seal figures of 2-15 from his eight overs.
