Dubai Capitals fast bowler Gulbadin Naib let out a roar after getting rid of Desert Vipers opener and dangerman Alex Hales in the first qualifier of the ILT20 2025 season. Tasked to bowl the ninth over of the Vipers innings at the Dubai International Stadium, the speedster deceived half-centurion Hales with a slower delivery to get a prized breakthrough for his team in the high-stakes game.

Gulbadin Naib halts Alex Hales’ six-hitting carnage

Gulbadin Naib caught-and-bowled Alex Hales in the ninth over of the Desert Vipers innings after the Afghanistan-based all-rounder deceived the lanky Englishman with a slower delivery. Sending down a leg cutter from around the wicket, Gulbadin caught a skier around the cover region after Hales mistimed the ball towards the air.

Earlier in the match, Alex Hales got Desert Vipers off to a flier despite losing opening partner Rahmanullah Gurbaz in the first over of the innings for just a single. Hales launched five boundaries and six sixes in his enterprising knock of 67 runs from just 32 balls to bolt the Vipers around the 100-run mark in less than nine overs.

The innings marked his third half-century of the ILT20 2025 season, and provided the Desert Vipers a perfect launching pad in the all-important first qualifier against Dubai Capitals.

Following the dismissal of Alex Hales, Max Holden (36 off 26) and Dan Lawrence (35 off 25) also chipped in with valuable runs in the middle order to surge Vipers to a competitive 189-7 from 20 overs.

For the Capitals, leg spinner Qais Ahmad picked up the key wickets of Holden and dangerman Sam Curran in his economical four-over spell of 2-29. After dismissing Hales, Gulbadin Naib also got rid of lower-order pinch-hitter Wanindu Hasaranga to finish his three overs with figures of 2-25.
