‘What Kind Of Question Is That…’ Rohit Sharma Shrugs Off Form Woes Before England ODIs

Indian captain Rohit Sharma, who underwent a disastrous tour with the bat in Australia, has brushed aside his form concerns ahead of the ODI series against England. The three matches against Jos Buttler’s troops mark India’s final set of international fixtures before the all-important 2025 ICC Champions Trophy later this month.

Sharma stated that his primary concern at the moment is the ODIs against England and the Champions Trophy, adding that this is not a ‘relevant’ time to discuss his future with Indian cricket.

Rohit Sharma brushes aside form concerns

While speaking with the reporters a day before India’s first ODI against England, captain Rohit Sharma was asked to address his dwindling form with the bat. It is worth noting that the legendary Indian opener failed to notch up a single notable score during India’s home Test series against Bangladesh and New Zealand, and also scored just 32 runs in three Tests in Australia in December.

Sharma shrugged off the reporter’s concerns by stating that he is heading into a different challenge in a different format. The cricketer also stated that this is not a relevant occasion to discuss his future, especially with a Champions Trophy on the horizon. He said:

“What kind of a question is that? This is a different format, different time. As usual, as cricketers, we know there will be ups and downs and I have faced a lot in my career so this is nothing new to me. We know every day is a fresh day, every series is a fresh series.”

“How is it relevant that I talk about my future plans sitting here, where we have three ODIs and Champions Trophies coming in. The reports are going on for a number of years. But I am not here to clarify those reports. For me right now, these three games here and then the Champions Trophy is very very important. So, my focus is on these games.”

Despite going through a lean patch in international cricket, Rohit Sharma did emerge as India’s leading run-getter during their previous ODI assignment back in August 2024 in Sri Lanka. The seasoned opening batter hauled 157 runs in three innings at an average of 52.33, even though Team India lost the series 0-2.

Nonetheless, India’s series against England will launch on Thursday, February 6 at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur.
