[Watch] Glenn Phillips Castles Moeen Ali With A Ripper In World Cup Opener

After getting off to a decent start, England were pushed on the back foot, as New Zealand spinners helped them make a remarkable comeback in the World Cup opener in Ahmedabad. Despite Joe Root fighting at one end, the Three Lions suffered a mini collapse, losing Jonny Bairstow, Harry Brook and Moeen Ali in quick succession. While Mitchell Santner got rid of Bairstow, Rachin Ravindra dismissed Brook before Glenn Phillips sent Moeen Ali back to the dugout.

As England promoted Moeen Ali to counter New Zealand's left-arm off spinners, Ravindra and Santner, the BlackCaps skipper Tom Latham introduced right-arm off-spinner Phillips against the southpaw.

The move proved to be a master stroke, as the part-timer castled Ali, providing New Zealand with a crucial breakthrough.

It was a short of good length delivery, as Ali committed for a pull through the mid wicket. However, the ball kept a tad low, beating the batter and shattering the timber.

After Moeen Ali departed, Jos Buttler joined the middle to steady the English ship alongside Joe Root. As of writing, the Three lions are in a spot of bother, reeling at 128 for four in 24 overs, with Root and Buttler batting on 38* and 5*, respectively.
