In the enthralling India vs Pakistan Super Fours clash in Asia Cup 2023, the game came to an abrupt pause due to an unexpected rain interruption at the R. Premadasa Stadium.

But what stood out amidst the chaos wasn't just the rain or the scoreline, but the sportsmanship displayed by Pakistan's opener, Fakhar Zaman.

Fakhar Zaman won hearts with his heartfelt gesture

The Sri Lankan groundsmen, usually alert at gauging weather conditions in Colombo, seemed taken by surprise by the sudden downpour. As they scrambled to cover the pitch, it became evident that additional hands were needed to prevent the ground from being completely drenched.

In a heartening gesture that has since earned him plaudits from both sides of the border and beyond, Zaman didn't hesitate for a moment. Instead of going into the dressing room alongside the rest of his teammates, he ran forward to assist the Sri Lankan ground staff.

While Zaman's off-field heroics grabbed headlines, the game itself had its fair share of drama. Pakistan's skipper, Babar Azam, after winning the toss, put India to bat hoping to exploit any possible early movement. His strategy, however, didn't go as planned.

The opening duo of Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill produced an exemplary batting masterclass. Both openers notched up their fifties and shared a 100-run partnership before falling to Shadab Khan and Shaheen Afridi respectively.

With India's scoreboard reading a promising 147/2 after 24.1 overs, the rain has halted the play. Fans from both sides will be hoping for the rain to go away so that action can resume quickly in what has been an exciting start to an India-Pakistan clash.
