Australian veteran Ellyse Perry bagged a stunning catch at deep square leg to snap Hayley Matthews' top-order fireworks in match number 19 of the ongoing WPL 2024 season. Her fielding brilliance gifted RCB a much-needed breakthrough after Mumbai Indians had raced to 43-0 inside the opening power play.

Mumbai Indians opener Hayley Matthews listed a couple of crisp boundaries and as many sixes to race to 26* within the opening power play.

However, the pressure of successive dot deliveries during Sophie Devine's new-ball spell seems to have gotten the better of her judgement, as her relentless attempt to notch up powerplay boundaries triggered her downfall at the brink of the sixth over.

In a bid to thwack Devine for a big hit, an advancing Hayley Matthews hacked a short delivery towards her leg side, only to find a diving Ellyse Perry accepting the dipping ball from deep square leg.

Emboldened by her fielding brilliance, Perry also cleaned up Sajeevan Sajana and Mumbai Indians captain Harmanpreet Kaur off successive deliveries during the second over of her opening spell.

Her timely contributions with the ball and in the field ensured that the defending champions slipped from 43-0 in 5.5 overs to 69-3 by the competition of their first ten overs.

The match is a must-win for the Smriti Mandhana-led RCB Women, considering they are placed third on the WPL 2024 points table heading into the final leg of the tournament's league stage.
