Aamidst the electrifying atmosphere of the Women's Premier League 2024 in Bengaluru, Royal Challengers Bangalore's Ellyse Perry emerged as the lone fighter for her team during the high-stakes clash against Mumbai Indians Women on Sunday.

WPL 2024: Ellyse Perry's lone battle stood out in RCB's struggle against MI Women

The veteran all-rounder put on a batting masterclass as she single-handedly steered her team to a competitive total in an innings filled with subpar performances. With RCB Women on the back foot early in the game, finding themselves at a dismal 31/2 after just five overs, Perry stepped into the breach and displayed her brilliance.

Ellyse Perry's unbeaten knock of 44 runs off 38 balls filled with five boundaries was the saving grace for RCB-W. However, it wasn't just the runs but the manner in which they were scored that showed Perry's invaluable contribution to the team. At a time when RCB's hopes seemed to be fading, she stood tall, anchoring the innings while wickets tumbled around her like ninepins.

Perry's partnership with Georgia Wareham, who chipped in with a crucial 27, was the silver lining in RCB's clouded innings. Together, they stitched a 52-run stand that not only pulled the team out of the mire but also propelled them to a respectable total of 131/6.

Meanwhile, in response, Mumbai Indians Women, led by their openers Yastika Bhatia and Hayley Matthews, launched a blistering counter-attack, making light work of the run chase. Bhatia, in particular, was in a punishing mood, blasting a quickfire 31 off just 15 deliveries, a whirlwind innings that included four boundaries and two sixes.

Despite Sophie Devine's breakthrough to dismiss Bhatia, Mumbai's response was a clear signal of their intent, racing to 69/1 in just seven overs, needing another 63 runs off 78 balls.
