Gujarat Giants find themselves in troubled waters at the onset of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2024, with an abysmal start that has seen them losing all three of their opening matches. Anchored at the bottom of the league table, Beth Mooney's squad is the lone team yet to mark their presence with a point, painting a rather wretched picture of their campaign thus far.

As they gear up to face Delhi Capitals Women in what's being dubbed as a crucial Match 10 of the WPL 2024 on Sunday, March 3, at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, the stakes couldn't be higher for the Gujarat contingent. In a bid to breathe new life into their floundering campaign, a reshuffle in their playing XI seems to be on the cards, as they aim to claw their way back into contention.

At the forefront of their attack, captain Beth Mooney, alongside Laura Wolvaardt, who made a respectable debut with a 28 off 26 balls in her first WPL 2024 appearance, are expected to lead the charge once again. Despite Mooney’s efforts, her runs have not translated into match-winning performances, highlighting the need for both openers to ignite the early spark and set a blistering pace from the get-go.

The middle-order stronghold, comprising Harleen Deol, Phoebe Litchfield, Ashleigh Gardner, and Dayalan Hemlatha, stands firm, with no changes anticipated against Delhi. The quartet's stability and skills will be crucial in anchoring the innings. Kathryn Bryce, hailing from Scotland, is likely to secure the all-rounder's berth.

However, the bowling department, featuring Sneha Rana, Meghna Singh, Tanuja Kanwar, and Mannat Kashyap, appears to be the Achilles' heel for Gujarat Giants. Their inexperience was starkly evident in the previous game's defeat to UP Warriorz, who effortlessly chased down a target of 143 with 26 balls to spare.

In light of this, strategic adjustments are imminent, with a potential shake-up that might see Laura Wolvaardt making room for the seasoned pacer, Lea Tahuhu. This move will aim to bolster the bowling attack, while Veda Krishnamurthy is tipped to join forces with Mooney, adding depth and experience to the top order.

While there revolves a lot of uncertainty around the team’s combination, one thing is certain for Gujarat Giants, it's time to either sink or swim as they seek to overturn their fortunes and keep their dreams of WPL glory alive.
